The Washington state flag is unique for two reasons: it is the only flag with a green field, and it is the only flag with the image of an actual person. The state seal, George Washington’s likeness, is centered on the green field.
The year “1889” appears at the bottom rim of the seal, as this was the year the seal was created by Charles Talcott.
